I transferred to Fulton in eighth grade, only knowing the three other students who transferred into the honors program with me. Mr Huggele, the music teacher, was new to the school as well, and he made a special effort to make all of us feel welcome. He encouraged us to make new friends, enjoy our difficult classes and find our individual talents.
One day, he asked for volunteers to sing solos in the class, but no one would step up to the plate. I liked him so much, I didn’t want to see him disappointed, so I raised my hand. I loved to sing, and I thought I could sing well, but I didn’t know for sure until I saw the smile on his face.
