Miss Cleo Kohn, Appleton Elementary School

Miss Cleo Kohn, Appleton Elementary School

When asked who my favorite teacher was, I always say Miss Kohn. She was my fourth grade teacher in Appleton, Minnesota.

The funny thing is, I don’t remember any particular stories about a lightning bolt learning moment. I just knew that Miss Kohn loved me, so I loved going to school and working hard in her classroom.

I am now 58 years old, and I still think about Miss Kohn. She was young when I was her student; I imagine by now she has retired after a full and rewarding career as a fine teacher. I hope that is the case.

I read your article about my aunt, Cleo Kohn and was touched. As I write I am making plans for her funeral – she died last Friday at age 82. Cleo’s career meant everything to her. Yes, she loved her students and loved sharing stories of her favorites. Cleo suffered with Alzheimer’s and has been non-communicative for the last years. I wish she would have been able to see your note – it would have meant so much.
