Deborah Morse, College of William and Mary

Victorian literature. Oh what an obscure and fascinating subject! When people ask me how exactly it is I came to study it, and to write an immensely fat thesis paper on it, the answer is an easy and compact one, requiring just three words: Professor Deborah Morse.

To be fair, I’ve always loved to read, and I knew I wanted to be an English major even before I started college. Before my freshman year, I had read my way through Wuthering Heights more than once, and had collected a set of well-thumbed Charles Dickens novels. And yet, I don’t think I would have ever followed through on that early interest if I had never met Professor Morse.
